Focus on Flora

Joanne McLeary is an accomplished yet spontaneous photographic artist. She was born and raised in Canada, then wandered the world for a bit. She’s been living in rural South Otago for over 30 years now – almost a local! Her passion for photos surfaced soon after moving here, when documenting her rural life adventures in New Zealand. What started out as just recording a moment in time, her photography has now become proficient in bringing to light the story behind what she sees and feels. Mostly self-taught, Jo upskills any chance she gets. Jo is a member of the Photographic Society of New Zealand and the Dunedin Photographic Society. While always on the lookout for new techniques and new subjects to explore and capture, Jo often returns to her all-time favourite, the amazing dark skies and unique nature of New Zealand – something she’s been watching since before it was a fashionable ‘thing’. Exhibitions are her favourite way of sharing her stories.
