Art After School Term 2 2026
This term we are exploring the science of art…or maybe it’s the art of science ?? Either way we’ll be trying lots of different techniques for creating that include some science ideas as well. Everything from surface tension to chemical reactions and touches of nature as well. Each class is stand alone so your child can come when it suits. I do provide some nibbles for afternoon tea in case students haven’t had time to eat. I also provide aprons but sometimes we get messy, so please remind your family to keep their uniforms out of the way.
Cake & Create Tetrapak Printmaking
Tetrapaks are the cardboard carton you can buy milk, juice, liquid stock and other things in. When you open them up, they have a silvery/plastic surface which is wonderful to use for scratching into dry point style for printmaking! Now that I have an etching press, we can use it to roll out prints and make some amazing works! It’s easy and fun and will make you look at packaging in a whole new way!!
Cake & Create - More Ways with Watercolour
There’s more than one way to work with watercolours! We’re going to explore some different techniques for creating with watercolour paint. This is great if you have some experience but also good if you’ve never really tried watercolours before
School Holiday Tetrapak Printmaking Class
Did you know that you can use old tetrapaks for printmaking ?? All you need is a scratching tool, some ideas, ink and a printing press ! Come along with your ideas and have some fun learning about the drypoint printing process. You can even bring you own tetrapaks from home if you have some.
School Holiday Collage Creatures Class
We’re going to use collage materials, paint, glue, stamps and more to creature creatures! It could be your
favourite animal, something from myth and legend, a dinosaur os even an alien. It’s up to you.
Cost is $25 . All Materials are included.
Cake & Create Geli Plate Printing
Geli Plate printing is a fun way of printmaking that uses acrylic paints, a roller and a plate made of gelatin! From monoprints to multiple layers, we’ll get into the art of printmaking and having fun. You’ll come away with at least ONE print you love and possibly a new art addiction.
Cake & Create: Introduction to Watercolour
Everyone tells you watercolour can be tricky, but in this class we’re going to learn some of the secrets that will help you begin to understand how to use it! You will also head home with some lovely wee works to enjoy and show off!
Art After School
This term we’re going to focus on people ! We’ll be making self portraits, how to draw movement, bodies, hands, feet and more. Some of the artists we will look at include New Zealand ones like Dick Frizzell as well as international artists like Ed Fairburn. Cost is just $10 a session which you can pay on the day.
School Holiday Geli Plate Printmaking
Geli plates are a soft surface made from gelatin and other ingredients which you can use to make prints with acrylic paints. We’re going to try some botanical ones first in a single layer, then use other textures to create multi layered prints. It’s fun and fairly easy. As I only have 10 plates, numbers are limited.
Cake & Create Christmas Printmaking
Christmas trees ? Snow flakes ? Decorations or even a deer ? Unleash your creative side! We’re going to design, carve and print “stamps” in a soft lino, (It’s really easy to carve) and print our deigns onto paper for wrapping presents and cards for Christmas giving. (You could also do other design for birthdays etc. if you prefer).
Introduction to Oil Painting
This class is designed for people who would like to begin to us oil paints. It’s the first in a series of 3 classes which will introduce you to the materials, how to make a start and the first layer. As oil paint takes time to dry, there will be two other classes to follow that will take you further into the techniques and ways in which you can work when you’re ready to explore on your own. This is an oils class where it okay to be a complete beginner, or you have some experience and want to learn more.
Cake & Create - Gelli Plate Printmaking
Gelli plate printmaking offers all sorts of possibilities ! Literally a plate with a jelly-like feel, this printmaking acrylic paints rather than traditional printmaking inks. We’ll explore just a few of the ways in which you can use this unique medium to create monoprints, layered prints and all sorts of happy accidents.
Cake & Create Sunday Afternoon - Finding your way around watercolour
This a different take on our cake and create nights - a relaxing Sunday afternoon instead ! We’re going to explore watercolour in the round - making round pictures instead of using the usual straight edges ! This class would suit anyone whether you’re a beginner or more experienced with using watercolours
Art After School Term 4
This term we’re going to be busy trying new things at Art After School. Children can come to one class or all of them - whatever suits.
Week 1: 9th Oct Lego Printing:
Week 2: 16th OCT Texture Art: using fabric, felt, lace, sacking etc to make a landscape, seascape or trees. Week 3: 23rd Oct Finish our texture picture.
Week 4: 30th Oct . Exploring complimentary colours: create two paintings using complimentary colours. Red and green, blue and orange or yellow and purple.
Week 5: 6th Nov Continue to work on and complete the week 4 work
Week 6: 13th Nov Dots/pointillism: create pictures using painted dot cotton buds.
Week 7: 20th Nov Doodles: creating doodle pictures, Zen tangle style. S
Week 8: 27th Nov & 4th Dec Stamps: make our own stamps for printing from soft lino.
Collagraph Printmaking School Holiday Class
We’re going to dive into printmaking again but this time making a printing “plate” from cardboard and other materials for texture. This could be a real picture or just abstract shapes and lines. Children will need to confident with scissors.

Curious Creatures School Holiday Kids Class
Like to use your imagination ? We’re going to be creating some curious looking creatures out of all sorts of stuff ! (Some might even call it rubbish) What will you come up with ?
Cost is $20. All materials are supplied but you are welcome to bring stuff from home if you like.

Cake & Create - Printmaking .
A collagraph is a printing “plate” made from cardboard and other materials. It can feature shapes, lines, texture and be realist or abstract or whatever you choose! Your plate can be used to print on paper as a one off, to create wrapping paper or even cards. (Christmas ideas anyone?)
Cost is $25. All materials will be supplied. (I have cards and paper that could be used for wrpapping or bring your own if you prefer)

Cake & Create Watercolour Cardmaking
Making your own cards for friends, family and special occasions is so much fun ! We’re going to use watercolour in different ways to make a range of cards. You can paint anything you like - From butterflies to blobs. If you have specific ideas, please bring your inspiration with you or just wing it.

Always wanted to try watercolour or want to learn some new ideas? This class is for everyone from beginners to more experienced people. It’s going to be fun and there will be a cuppa and cakes, or biscuits or treats of some sort at least.
Cost is $25 which can be paid on the night via eftpos or cash if you prefer.
All materials will be supplied but you can bring you own if you have some.

Art After School
From drawing skills to exploring paint, we’re going to be having some fun and learning skills you can use in all sorts of ways at the same time. Please make sure you’ve had a snack (or bring you afternoon tea with you.
Cost is $10 a session or you can pay for the whole term at $75. All materials will be supplied.
Aprons are supplied to cover up but if you have a chance to change to old clothes, please do.
